Upon Entering Our Office

You will be greeted and asked to fill out your new patient paperwork which details your medical history and insurance information. To save you time, you can download these forms and fill them out at home.

Feel free to relax and grab a cup of coffee in our waiting room while filling out the forms and waiting for your appointment.

(Our procedures have changed due to necessary safety precautions due to COVID-19. Please read through our COVID-19 Arrival Procedure.)

Your One-On-One Consultation

Prior to any physical exams, you will have a one-on-one consultation with one of our dentists. During this time we will go over:

  • Your medical history
  • Any issues or concerns you have regarding your gums, teeth, mouth, and overall dental health
  • Any anxiety or stress you may have visiting the dentist (we do offer sedation dentistry)

Taking X-rays

Once the consultation is over, we’ll head upstairs to take X-rays of your teeth. This provides us a clearer picture of your mouth and is helpful in determining a treatment plan.

Oral Evaluation

We will also conduct an oral evaluation of your mouth and measure your gums. This is also known as a periodontal exam. This is important in understanding the health of your gums.

Develop A Plan

Based on the findings of our consultation, X-rays, and oral evaluation, we will go over our plan for providing you with a healthy smile.

Our staff will book your next visit, whether that is to do a cleaning, provide treatment, or a no-charge treatment consultation to go over your treatment options and costs involving insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the initial visit take?

A typical new patient evaluation takes about an hour. We ask that you come in about 15 minutes earlier to fill out the new patient forms. You can download them and fill them out at home to save you some time.

Will I have my teeth cleaned on my first visit?

If you are over the age of 21, we will not schedule a cleaning with your first visit. The entire appointment will be spent with the doctor. This allows us to thoroughly evaluate your oral health to ensure that we are prescribing the appropriate type of treatment for you.

Will my insurance cover my visit?

Every insurance plan is different and can vary from company to company and plan to plan. It is best to give our office a call at 410-461-3311 to cover exactly what is covered by your insurance.

How long have your been in business?

Ellicott Mills Dental started out in 1983 as Smiles By Becker. In 2019 our name changed to Ellicott Mills Dental, but the level of care and treatment we provide remained the same. Dr. Becker is still here alongside Dr. Ford.

Where are you located?

We are conveniently located just half a mile from downtown Ellicott City with plenty of parking for all of our patients.
