New Patient Overview

Your First Visit

We are excited to welcome you to the Ellicott Mills Dental family!  We are a locally owned practice that has been serving the Ellicott City community since 1983.  Our doctors, hygienists and staff are passionate about helping you achieve and maintain a healthy smile for life.  Your comfort, health, safety and satisfaction with your visit is our top priority and the key to our success.

We will email you forms to securely fill-out prior to your visit. However, if you prefer to print them out and bring them with you, you can download the forms here.

1. Your One-On-One Consultation

Prior to any physical exams, you will have a one-on-one consultation with one of our dentists. During this time we will go over:

  • Your medical history
  • Any issues or concerns you have regarding your gums, teeth, mouth, and overall dental health
  • Any anxiety or stress you may have visiting the dentist (we do offer sedation dentistry)

2. Taking X-Rays

Once the consultation is over, we’ll head upstairs to take X-rays of your teeth. This provides us a clearer picture of your mouth and is helpful in determining a treatment plan.

3. Oral Evaluation

We will also conduct an oral evaluation of your mouth and measure your gums. This is also known as a periodontal exam. This is important in understanding the health of your gums.

4. Develop A Plan

Based on the findings of our consultation, X-rays, and oral evaluation, we will go over our plan for providing you with a healthy smile.

Our staff will book your next visit, whether that is to do a cleaning, provide treatment, or a no-charge treatment consultation to go over your treatment options and costs involving insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical new patient evaluation takes about an hour. We ask that you come in about 15 minutes earlier to fill out the new patient forms. You can download them and fill them out at home to save you some time.

If you are over the age of 21, we will not schedule a cleaning with your first visit. The entire appointment will be spent with the doctor. This allows us to thoroughly evaluate your oral health to ensure that we are prescribing the appropriate type of treatment for you.

Every insurance plan is different and can vary from company to company and plan to plan. It is best to give our office a call at 410-461-3311 to cover exactly what is covered by your insurance.

Ellicott Mills Dental started out in 1983 as Smiles By Becker. In 2019 our name changed to Ellicott Mills Dental, but the level of care and treatment we provide remained the same. Dr. Becker is still here alongside Dr. Ford.

We are conveniently located just half a mile from downtown Ellicott City with plenty of parking for all of our patients. Our address is:
